Flat Stanley from Slovakia

Hi:
We live in the SLOVAK REPUBLIC, it is a country in the heart of Europe. We were part of Czechoslovakia until 1993 when both governments decided to split apart in what was called the Velvet Divorce.

Slovakia is about the size of Connecticut and has a population of 5.4 million people.
The capital city is Bratislava along the Danube River only about 40 miles from Vienna!

The second biggest city is Kosice (prounounced ko-she-say). It is also along a river, but much smaller Hornad River.

We have many beautiful old buildings. For example St Elizabeth's Cathedral with a beautiful gilded spire, the State Theater which is a beautiful opera house with three tiers of box seats, and the Museum which is being restored this year.
We have skiing and hiking in the High Tatras Mountains which form our northern border with Poland. We have many caves also, and many hot springs for relaxing.
USSTEEL has a very large company here

We speak Slovak, Polish, German, Russian and English. American styles and music is very popular here. PizzaHut and McDonalds have restaurants here. The supermarkets look a lot like supermakets in the US.

  3. Dear Dee,
Why did your two govrener's split up? Did that effect you and the way your people lived at first when they broke up.Did one of your govener stay with you or did they just left to go control another place? If they did,how long did it take to find a new govener, what did they do to find a new govener? How did they sovle these problems?

  5. Dear Dee,
Hi! I heard that you live in Solvka and it's the heart of Europe. How is it like to live there?Since you were aprt of Czechoslovakia in 1993 and the two governers split up,why did they split up in the first place when they were together for many man years.I know that has so me very harsh and do they battle now that their splited apart for other places? When I seen that the population of Slovka was 5.4 million I thought wow! that's alot of people to live there in the second smallest contient and our population is very large. What is the biggest city Kosice like with a river attached along it , I think it's kind of cool to hear that because the river might have clean, fresh water in it and you could probly swim in it to cool off when your hot.We have old beautiful buildings too like Famous Musems, Theaters also , and Factories. If there's an opera house there in Sovka do you ever visit it or go there so hear people single opera. We have chuches like that too and the biggest church we have is called "Cathedral". People how travel to come to New Jersey also speak the languages that you speak, but we mostly speak english. Here where I live we have a Pizza Hut,McDonalds, and resturants ,but there's lots of them all over.Since you said that the supermarkets there look like the ones hear then do yall have Path Marks', Stop and Shop, or Shop Rite? Hearing about your life and the where you live was very interesting and I hope to hear more again Dee.
